On Tuesday September 24, 2024, the National Designated Authority (NDA) to the Green Climate Fund (GCF) at the Economic Planning Division of the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Information Technology in the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines handed over several Information Communication Technology equipment to the Meteorological (MET) Services Department. This initiative is part of the $700,000 USD Readiness support received from the Green Climate Fund under the recently implemented project entitled “ Capacity Building to support Institutional Strenghtening, Planning and Programming to enable increased Climate Finance mobilization for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.” The equipment was purchased in an effort to bolster reporting and information dissemination by the country’s primary institution responsible for providing weather forecasting events to the general public.
The MET services Department received equipment totalling $31,463.65 USD; which comprised of a server and other storage media, computers, a laptop and a toughboook for field work, camera and and all in one printer.
This inititiative is a component of an institutional restructuring and human resources capacity building action plan that was conducted for the MET services that identified the overall needs of the institution.
As St. Vincent and the Grenadines continues its path towards climate resiliency, the Green Climate Fund alongside the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC) remain strong pillars to aid in developing strategic frameworks, identifying projects for development, increasing capacity and knowledge of local stakeholders.
